How Much Does a New Deck Cost?
There is a wide range in variables that determine the cost of a deck. When it comes to building a new deck, customers have more choices now than ever. With all these choices, we understand pricing can get a little confusing. To make purchasing your deck easier than ever, we have put together a few pricing examples below. Many options can be added to these examples, and there are still variables that can add to the price. On average, our clients typically spend between $25,000 to $35,000 on their new decks. We have also done projects for much less than that, and offer projects with all the bells and whistles that could get well into 6 figures. It all depends on your tastes, your style, and most importantly, where you are comfortable at in your budget. Check out our page for more info about your decking options.
Here are some examples of different decks with a few of the options included in that price range. Please keep in mind that these are only sample prices, and items such as removal of your existing deck can add to the overall cost.
We also have design services that include a 3D rendering and construction plans that will be yours even if you do not use us to complete your project.
Design service fee is $1,500 with up to 2 revisions.
If you choose Backyard Builders LLC to complete your project, that fee will be deducted off your project.

Project Minimum
Entry Level, Low- Maintenance Composite Decks
Minimum Project Details
These low maintenance decks are perfect for those who don’t want to hassle with staining their deck (and all the headaches that go along with it), but are budget minded. This price range will include the economy grade, entry level composite decking, with all aluminum railings. All of our composites come with a minimum 25-year warranty through the manufacture, and include hidden fasteners. Decks in this price range are usually 6' tall and under. Although more susceptible to scratches and wear than the higher end composites, these deck boards will keep you enjoying your deck all summer, not working on it.

Mid-Range Composite Decks
This price range allows a better composite or PVC decking to be used, as well as have a slightly more unique looking deck, with a few more options. The composite decking used will have a harder shell, and prevent scratching better than the economy decking. Lights can be added to railing, and accent colored deck borders can be used. If composites are used, your deck has stairs, and is more than 6’ off the ground it will, more than likely, be in this category as well. This is the price range where most of our low maintenance decks fall under, and will give you a deck to match the beauty of the inside of your home.

How We Determine Our Deck Prices
Layout and Size
The size, shape, and even the height of your deck will be the highest factor when determining price. Square decks will be easier to build, therefore will have a cost savings over a deck with a lot of angles, bump outs, or unique design features. Some features may only add a few hundred dollars, but others can easily add thousands. An easy way to remember is, the simpler the design, the less it will cost compared to one with a more difficult shape.
The overall size of the deck will also change the costs. Usually, the larger the deck, the more it will cost to build. Some builders will give you pricing purely based on square footage, and yes, we do calculate that into our equation, but there are more factors in size than just the square footage. For example, a 12’x12’ deck and a 6’x24’ front porch are both 144 square feet, but the porch will cost more than the deck in this example. This is because of the extra footings, hardware, decking layout, and many other differences between the two. The same can be said with larger decks. The price per square foot will actually be lower with a 500 square foot deck than a 100 square foot deck, even though the overall cost of the larger deck is quite a bit more. This is due to the larger square footage “hiding” more of the costs from the footings, hardware, and other costs, mentioned above.
The height of the deck, and how many stairs the deck will have also contributes to the overall cost. Stairs are extremely labor intensive, with a lot of details. It can sometimes take a person as long to build the set of stairs as the deck itself. Also, on taller decks where ladders are required, progress is slowed a bit for safety and the extra time required to climb up and down the ladders. Tall decks with a lot of stairs will cost much more than the same deck that’s only a few feet off the ground.
In short, the simpler the design layout and the smaller the deck, the less the deck will cost overall (using the same materials). Costs increase with larger decks, more unique shapes, long porches or decks, and adding areas such as a grill bump out.
Materials Used
Materials used on your deck will also greatly determine the cost of your new deck. To learn more about the materials we offer, give us a call!
For example, an all pressure treated pine deck will cost less than a premium PVC deck with composite or aluminum railing. One thing to keep in mind, however, wood decks will require staining every year or so. The added costs of upkeep can quickly catch up to those of a composite or PVC deck, and will end up costing more long term.
Added Features
Added features such as lights, shade structures, custom benches, a pattern in the decking, privacy walls, under deck patios, and other options will also determine the overall cost of your new deck.
